Bulldogs get 27-14 win over Coahoma; end season at 5-4

CLARKSDALE --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs defeated the Coahoma Community College Tigers in Clarksdale Thursday night, 27-14, on three touchdowns from freshman running back Dylan Kelly, who had two receiving and one rushing touchdown.

With the win, the Bulldogs ended the season at 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the North Division.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard early in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Jesse Wilson connected with Kelly from 77 yards out. Kelly caught a pass near the Tiger 30 and shook a defender and raced to the endzone. Connor McKay's extra point was no good, and Holmes led 6-0 with 10:17 left in the quarter.

Coahoma answered the score with one second left in the quarter as running back Jaylin Jones scored from a yard out. Holmes' Cedric Moffett blocked the extra point, and the game remained tied.

Late in the second quarter, Wilson connected with Kelly once again, this time from 13 yards out. McKay's extra point was good, and Holmes led 13-6 with 17 seconds left before halftime.

Kelly added his third touchdown on the night as he raced in from four yards out with 11:51 left in the third quarter. McKay's kick gave the Bulldogs a 20-6 lead.

The Tigers answered this score as Myron Norfleet connected with Aakiel Greer on an 8-yard touchdown pass. The two-point try failed making the score 20-12 with 9:24 left in the third.

Holmes got their final score of the night in the fourth quarter as Shaun Walton picked up a Bulldog fumble in the Tiger endzone for a score. Sophomore Gabe Short raced toward the endzone and reached out trying to score but the ball came loose and Walton jumped on it. McKay's extra point was good to make it 27-12 with 5:01 left in the fourth.

The Tigers added two more points late in the game on a safety.

Terry Bryant led the Bulldogs in rushing with 126 yards on 20 carries while Short had 63 yards on seven carries. Wilson was 4-of-7 passing for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Kelly had three catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

Kendrick Haynes and Demonte Holliman each led the Bulldogs with seven tackles and one tackle for loss. Holliman added a fumble recovery. Jha'mauri Johnson had six tackles and one tackle for loss.
