Ten Bulldogs receive MACJC postseason honors

Ten Holmes Community College Bulldog football players were recently recognized by the MACJC for their play this year.

Holmes, who finished 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the North, had two First Team All-State selections Connor McKay and Tyshauwn White, two Second Team All-State selections Cedrick Moffett and Tovell Henderson, Jr. and six Honorable Mention All-State selections Jack Chavis, Charvez Embry, Kendrick Haynes, Tavian Johnson and Dylan Kelly.

McKay, who was the placekicker for the Bulldogs and saw action at punter, finished the season with 37 points and was 25-of-29 on extra points and 4-of-7 on field goals. White, a linebacker, finished with 45 tackles (25 solos and 20 assists) and had 9.5 tackles for loss and seen sacks. He also had one fumble recovery and three forced fumbles.

Henderson was a mainstay along with offensive front for the Bulldogs while Moffett was a key at cornerback on the defensive side. Moffett finished with 33 tackles (20 solos and 13 assists) along with three interceptions, 11 broken up passes and one blocked kick.

Chavis was another key along the offensive front for the Bulldogs while Embry and Johnson played along the defensive front. Embry finished with 31 tackles (18 solos and 13 assists) while Johnson had 24 tackles (15 solos and nine assists) along with seven tackles for loss and four sacks.

Haynes, another Bulldog linebacker, led the Bulldogs in tackles with 67 (47 solos and 20 assists) and had five and a half tackles for loss, 2 and a half sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Hayes, a quarterback, and Kelly, a running back, lit up the scoreboard for the Bulldogs on the offensive side. Hayes was 24-of-39 for 432 yards with eight touchdowns and also had 67 carries for 391 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Kelly had 36 carries for 359 yards and three touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 385 yards and six touchdowns.
