Bulldogs fall to Pearl River, 55-7

POPLARVILLE --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs and the Pearl River Community College Wildcats traded scores early before the Wildcats pulled away for a 55-7 win here Thursday night.

Pearl River took their first play from scrimmage for a touchdown. The extra point is good and Pearl River led 7-0 with 14:15 left in the first.

Holmes got the ball at the Wildcat 34 after the kickoff and then scored on its first play of the game. Batey took the ball around right end and raced to the Wildcat 48 before pitching to Kerrick Ross for the touchdown. Luke Moffett's extra point was good, and the game was tied with 14 minutes left in the first.

Pearl River then added three more scores in the first quarter to lead 27-7 after one. The Wildcats had three rushing touchdowns with two of three extra points.

The Wildcats added a passing touchdown in the second half to lead 34-7 at halftime after the extra point was good.

In the third, Pearl River added a rushing TD. The extra point was good, and Pearl River led 41-7 with 8:10 left in the third.

The Wildcats added two rushing touchdowns in the fourth with two extra points to end all scoring.

Ross led the Bulldogs on the ground with two carries for 78 yards while Batey finished with 47 yards on 15 carries. Joshua Nunn and Zak Morris had four tackles each in the contest.
