Bulldogs open the season Monday, Nov. 4 at Co-Lin

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs have three returning players from last year's Region XXIII Runner-up team on this year's team. The Bulldogs open the season Monday at Copiah-Lincoln at 7:30 p.m.

Holmes finished last season with a 17-10 record. The Bulldogs fell to Pearl River in the first round of the MACJC State Tournament and then defeated East Mississippi (72-64) in the opening round of the Region XXIII Tournament and then defeated Gulf Coast in the semifinals (48-45) and then lost a heartbreaker to Pearl River in the finals, 57-52.

Returning players are Josiah Lewis, 6'6 sophomore forward from Grenada; Michael Harris, 5'5 sophomore guard from Ruleville; and Jaylen Lester, 6' sophomore guard from Durant. Lester averaged 5.8 points per game while Lewis averaged 2.5 points per game and Harris one point per game.

Tyler Williams, a 6'9 transfer from Independence Community College in Kansas, hails from Baltimore, Maryland. He averaged 6.9 points per game last season and will make the fourth sophomore on this year's team.

Freshman newcomers include: Brandon Weatherspoon, 6'4 guard from Canton; Kaleb Higgins, 5'10 guard from Pine Bluff, Ark.; David Brown, 6'4 forward from Jackson; Jamarie Weathers, 6'3 guard from Walnut Grove; Darrius Clark, 6'4 guard from Indianola; Talley Tyler, 5'10 guard from Starkville; Jartavia Greer, 6' guard from Lexington; Jamarrion Brown, 6'3 guard from Starkville; Jaymeson Norfort, 6'4 forward from Vicksburg; Amadou Traore, 6'7 forward from Harlem, N.Y.; and RodDarios Travis, center from Lexington. 

Coach Jason Flanigan returns for his 14th season at Holmes and his 11th as head coach. Joining him this season as assistant coach is Eric Colbert. Colbert replaced Jason Harrison, who is now the head coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

The home schedule includes: Hinds, Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m.; East Central, Nov. 18, 7:30 p.m.; Baton Rouge, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m.; Southwest Tennessee, Dec. 13, 6 p.m.; Southern Arkansas University Tech, Jan. 6, 7:30 p.m.; Mississippi Delta, Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m.; Northeast, Jan. 21, 7:30 p.m.; Northwest, Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m.; East Mississippi, Feb. 3, 7:30 p.m.; Coahoma, Feb. 10, 7:30 p.m.; and Itawamba, Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m.
