GOODMAN --- After trailing by 13 points at halftime, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs battled back to within one but couldn't hang on as East Central Community College won 87-75 here Monday night.

A Jalen Lester three-pointer with 14:17 left in the game brought the Bulldogs to within eight at 55-47. With eight minutes to play and Holmes trailing 61-58, Kaleb Higgins drove in the lane, made the basket and was fouled. The free throw attempt was no good, and Holmes trailed by one, 61-60. East Central moved the lead back to 10 points with 5:26 left in the game.
For the game, Holmes shot 40.3 percent from the floor (29-of-72) and 63.2 percent from the free-throw line (12-of19). Josiah Lewis led the Bulldogs with 14 points and nine rebounds while Lester had 13 and Higgins had 12.
