Bulldogs fall in division opener to East Miss, 70-66

SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fought hard to the end here Thursday night but came up short in their North Division opener with the East Mississippi Community College Lions, 70-66.

East Mississippi led 33-26 at halftime. Holmes outscored 40-37 East Mississippi in the second half but it wasn't enough.

Kaleb Higgins led the Bulldogs with 15 points while Josiah Lewis had 12 and Brandon Weatherspoon had 11.

The Bulldogs shot 34.5 percent from the floor, 20 percent from the three-point line and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

In a game Monday, the Bulldogs finished out their non-conference schedule with an 86-64 win over Southern Arkansas University Tech.

Holmes led 32-31 at halftime and then outscored the Rockets 54-33 in the second half to pull out the win. SAU defeated Holmes 72-21 earlier in the season in Camden, Ark.

Tyler Talley led the Bulldogs with 28 points including four three-pointers. Josiah Lewis followed with 15 and Jamarrion Brown had 10. Lewis finished with 10 rebounds while Darrius Clark had nine.

Holmes shot 50 percent from the floor (33-of-66), 31.8 percent from the three-point line (7-of-22) and 76.5 percent from the free throw line (13-of-17).
