Lady Bulldogs fall 74-71 on the road at Delta

MOORHEAD  --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs battled back from a 16-point deficit to take a lead late, but the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans answered and took the contest, 74-71.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the North Division. Holmes plays Coahoma on Thursday night in Goodman at 6 p.m. You can watch the game live at holmesccmedia.com.

Jekalen Jones hit a three-pointer with a little over two minutes to play to tie the game at 69 before Brysa Maxwell scored in the post to give Holmes the 71-69 lead with 2:02 to play. Delta answered with a three-pointer and a two-point bucket with a minute left to take the 74-71 lead. Holmes had a chance late but a three-point try was no good.

Delta led 28-20 after one period and led 46-34 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Trojans, 22-11, in the third period before Delta outscored Holmes in the final period, 17-15, to hold on for the win.

Jones led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points while T'Onna Sims had 13, Ja'Breonia Veasey had 12 and Janae Collier had 11. Jones had eight rebounds while Marlaysha Beamon had seven.
