Lady Bulldogs defeat Delgado, 56-51

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs defeated the Delgado Lady Dolphins here Friday night, 56-51, to pick up a Region XXIII win.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-7 overall. Holmes returns to action on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. vs. Southern Arkansas University Tech in Goodman.

Delgado led 20-13 after one period before the Lady Bulldogs took a 24-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. Holmes took the third period, 13-11 and the fourth period, 19-17, to pull out the win.

Brysa Maxwell led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points while Gabrielle Bunch had 11. Jamaya Redd led the Lady Bulldogs with five rebounds while Maxwell and Morgan Williams each had four.

Holmes shot 38.8 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from the three-point line and 75 percent from the free-throw line.

On Thursday night in Baton Rouge, the Lady Bulldogs suffered a heartbreaking defeat in overtime to the Baton Rouge Lady Bears, 68-66, in a region contest..

Baton Rouge led 16-14 after one period but the game ended up tied at halftime at 31. Each team scored 16 points in the third and 14 points in the fourth to force overtime where Baton Rouge outscored Holmes, 7-5, to pull out the win.

Jordyn Manning and Bunch each scored 19 points while Maxwell had 10. Maxwell finished with 14 rebounds while Bunch had six and Manning, Redd and Jalaceia Smith each had five.

Holmes shot 38.6 percent from the floor in the game (27-of-70).
