Lady Bulldogs fall to East Mississippi, 55-36

SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community Lady Bulldogs fought fell here Thursday night in their North Division opener to the East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions, 55-36.

East Mississippi jumped out early and led 17-2 after one period. The Lady Bulldogs took the second period 15-9 to make the score 28-17 at halftime. Holmes then outscored East Mississippi in the third 10-7 before East Mississippi pulled away in the fourth, 22-9.

Brysa Maxwell led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Holmes shot 32.5 percent from the floor, 25 percent from the three-point line and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line.

In a game Monday versus Southern Arkansas University Tech, the Lady Bulldogs won 92-57 to finish out their non-conference schedule.

Holmes led 22-14 after one period and 48-27 at halftime. Holmes scored 22 in the third and 22 in the fourth to SAU's 15 points in each period to pull out the win. Holmes defeated SAU 68-59 earlier in the season in Camden, Ark.

Shawanda Gray led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points including three three-pointers while Jordyn Manning and Brysa Maxwell each had 14, Jalaceia Smith had 12 and Gabrielle Bunch had 11.

Holmes shot 43.9 percent from the floor (36-of-82) and 36.8 percent from the three-point line (7-of-19).
