Lady Bulldogs go to 3-2 in the North win 61-58 win over Northwest

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs went to 3-2 in the North Division here Thursday night with a 61-58 win over the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers.

Jordyn Manning hit two free throws with 10 seconds to play to put Holmes up 60-58. Shawanda Gray added a free throw to increase the lead to 61-58 with three seconds to go. A three-point attempt at the buzzer was blocked by Manning to secure the win.

A Manning three-pointer put the Lady Bulldogs up 7-3 with 7:09 left in the first. A layup from Gabrielle Bunch made it 9-3 with 4:55 to play in the period. Bunch scored with 2:49 to play to take the lead to 10, 16-6. Holmes led 16-12 after one period.

Northwest hit five three pointers in the second period to outscore Holmes, 15-10, to take a 27-26 lead at halftime.

The teams swapped leads early in third before Northwest stretched their lead to five with 3:34 left in the period. Holmes' Gray hit two free throws with 28 seconds to play in the third to give Holmes the 39-38 lead. Northwest scored with 14 seconds to play in the third to lead 41-39 after three periods.

The Lady Rangers led by six with 8:38 to play in the fourth period. Holmes' Jamaya Redd scored with 5:17 left to tie the game at 50. The teams swapped leads the remainder of the contest. Holmes' Brysa Maxwell gave Holmes a two-point lead with 57 seconds left but Northwest tied it back it up Manning hit her two free throws late for the win. Holmes outscored Northwest, 22-17, in the fourth.

Bunch led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points while Manning had 11 and Maxwell and Morgan Williams each had 10. Bunch had eight rebounds in the contest.
