Lady Bulldogs battle back from huge deficit but fall to Northwest, 85-79

SENATOBIA --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fell behind early 29-7 after one period of play, but freshman guard Gabrielle Bunch of Laurel dropped 39 points to help the Lady Bulldogs battle back here Monday night but couldn't catch up to the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers falling 85-79.

With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 10-12 overall and 6-5 in the North. Holmes will face Itawamba on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Watch live at holmesccmedia.com/white-channel or on your Amazon Fire or Roku devices. Holmes is fourth in the North going into the final game of the regular season.

After Northwest led 29-7, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Rangers the remainder of the game. Holmes took the second period, 22-17, to trail 46-29 at halftime. Holmes then scored 25 in the third to Northwest's 20 and 25 in the fourth to Northwest's 9, but it wasn't enough.

Bunch hit five three-pointers in the game and was 16-of-27 from the floor. Many of the three-pointers were over four feet behind the line. Jordyn Manning finished with 12 points while Brysa Maxwell had 11 rebounds.

For the game, the Lady Bulldogs shot 41.7 percent from the floor (30-of-72), 40 percent from the three-point line (8-of-20) and 78.6 percent from the free-throw line (11-of-14).
