Lady Bulldogs secure North No. 3 seed in MACJC Tournament

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs secured the North No. 3 spot in next week's MACJC Tournament in Scooba after a 64-43 North Division win to end the regular season.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs went to 11-12 overall and 7-5 in the North. Holmes will play Southwest on Tuesday but the game time has not been released. The games will be played at East Mississippi Community College.

Even though Holmes and Northwest are both 7-5, Holmes won the tiebreaker because they defeated Itawamba while Northwest did not. East Mississippi will be North No. 1, Itawamba will be North No. 2 and Northwest will be North No. 4. In the South, Jones will be the South No. 1, Southwest will be South No. 2, Pearl River will be South No. 3 and Gulf Coast will be South No. 4.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out in the first period and led 17-10 after one period of play. Holmes then outscored Itawamba 14-6 in the second period to go up 31-16 at halftime. Holmes outscored Itawamba, 19-12, in the third period before the Lady Indians took the fourth period, 15-14.

Holmes shot 44.3 percent from the floor (27-of-61) and 33.3 percent from three-point line (5-of-15).

Gabrielle Bunch led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points while Brysa Maxwell had 13 and Jordyn Manning had 12. Maxwell finished with 13 rebounds in the game. She was honored pre-game as this year's only sophomore player.
