Preview: Holmes takes on Southwest in MACJC Tournament on Tuesday night

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will go into the MACJC State Basketball Tournament as the North's No. 3 seed and will face the South Division No. 2 seed Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears.

Holmes finished the season at 11-12 overall and 7-5 in the North Division while Southwest finished the season 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the South Division. The two will battle Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. The remaining opening games include: South No. 1 Jones vs. North No. 4 Northwest at 1 p.m.; North No. 2 Itawamba vs. South No. 3 Pearl River at 3 p.m.; and North No. 1 East Mississippi vs. South No. 4 Gulf Coast at 5:30 p.m. You can watch the game live at holmesccmedia.com/white-channel or on your Amazon Fire or Roku devices.

Holmes is led in scoring by freshman guard Gabrielle Bunch, who is 13.8 points per game. Freshman guard Jordyn Manning is averaging 10.3 points per game while sophomore guard/forward Brysa Maxwell is averaging 9.5 points per game. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are averaging 58.9 points per game and are shooting 35.8 percent from the floor, 28 percent from three-point range and 62.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 62 points per game.

Southwest is led in scoring by sophomore Jolie Williams, who is averaging 14.8 points per game. Freshman guard Shylia McGee is averaging 9.4 points per game while freshman forward D'Mya Wilson is averaging 9.1 points per game. As a team, Southwest is averaging 67.8 points per game and are shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, 34.6 percent from the three-point line and 67.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Southwest is giving up 60.1 points per game.
