Lady Bulldogs defeat Northwest, 3-1; head to state championship game

RIDGELAND --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs trailed the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers, 1-0, going into the halftime of the 2017 MACJC State Championship semifinal game today but outscored the Lady Rangers, 3-0, in the second half to pull out the 3-1 win.

The Lady Bulldogs, who are 13-0-1 on the year, are playing for their first state championship tomorrow at 4 p.m. versus the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats, who beat Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the second semifinal of the day 2-1 in extra time on penalty kicks after two 10-minute overtime periods. Holmes fell to Jones in last year's championship game at Perkinston. The winner will advance to the NJCAA playoffs.

Northwest got on the scoreboard in the 25^th minute on a goal from Carolyn Rials and an assist from Angelica Justice.

The Lady Bulldogs tied the match at one in the 56^th minute on a goal from Taylor Gagneaux and assist from Britain Welzien.

Holmes took the lead for good in the 60^th minute when Madison Deslatte scored on an assist from Pepper Ann Filbert.

Sarah Donahoo headed a shot in on an assist from Sarah Chastain in the 81^st to seal the victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
