Montgomery leads Holmes past Gulf Coast in OT, 4-3

RIDGELAND --- Holmes Community College freshman midfielder Peyton Montgomery from Longview, Texas gave the Lady Bulldogs a 4-3 win in overtime here Tuesday over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on a 60-yard goal from just past midfield.

With the win, Holmes improved to 8-0 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs host Southwest Tennessee Community College on Friday at 5 p.m. at Freedom Ridge Park.

Gulf Coast took the lead early in the match before the Lady Bulldogs tied the match at one in the 26th minute on a goal by Zoe Ellis on an assist from Montgomery.

Gulf Coast then retook the lead in the 34th minute and held a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

Montgomery tied the match at two in the 73rd minute on a free kick from outside of the box. Gulf Coast then retook the lead at 3-2 in the 77th minute.

Pepper Ann Filbert scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to tie the match at three. Neither team could score the remaining eight minutes to force overtime when seconds into the overtime, Montgomery blasted it over the keepers head from midfield to give the Lady Bulldogs the win.
