Holmes gets 6-1 win over Jones

RIDGELAND --- In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with a 6-1 win over the Jones College Lady Bobcats here this afternoon.

Holmes will play Itawamba on Friday at 1 p.m. in Ridgeland.

The Lady Bulldogs went ahead 1-0 with a goal by Cariel Ellis in the sixth minute of the match. Ellis then assisted a Zoe Ellis goal in the 11th minute to put the Lady Bulldogs up 2-0.

Ja'Laycia Brown got in the scoring column on an assist from Isabella Wade in the 34th minute. Holmes led 3-0 at halftime.

Zoe Ellis got another goal in the 48th minute to put Holmes up 4-0. Laney Smith scored on an assist from Cariel Ellis in the 60th minute to put the Lady Bulldogs up 5-0.

Cariel Ellis scored again in the 86th minute to end the Lady Bulldogs' scoring at six. Jones added a goal in the 88th minute from Figueroa to make the final 6-1.

In the season opener on Aug. 22, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Bears of Southwest, 7-1. Holmes led 4-0 at halftime.

Bailey Thompson and Cariel Ellis each had two goals in the match. Laney Smith, Mackenzie Thompson and Caseigh Hickman each added a goal while Anna King, Cariel Ellis, Bailey Thompson, Cameron Gladney and Jocelyn Fernandez each had an assist.
