Lady Bulldogs pick up two wins in Birmingham over the weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- It took extra time here Saturday, but the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs came out on top in a match vs. Oxford College of Emory University, 4-3. Cariel Ellis' goal in the 94th minute gave Holmes the win to improve to 14-2 on the season.

Holmes is scheduled to finish the regular season on Thursday on the Ridgeland Campus at 1 p.m. vs. Hinds in the final North Division contest. It'll be Sophomore Day and a White Out game where everyone is asked to wear white to support the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs are fighting for another North Division title.

In Saturday's match, Oxford-Emory got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Holmes answered in the 35th minute on a goal from Zoe Ellis on an assist from Peyton Montgomery. Oxford-Emory scored again in the 40th minute to take a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Oxford-Emory scored in the 50th minute to go up 3-1. C. Ellis scored off a Caseigh Hickman assist to inch closer at 3-2. Holmes then tied the match on a Z. Ellis goal in the 89th minute before C. Ellis scored on a McKenzie Thompson assist in extra time to pull out the win.

On Friday, the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs picked up a 4-1 win here Friday versus Gordon State College.

In the match, C. Ellis had three goals while Z. Ellis added the other goal. C. Ellis' goals came in the 14th, 59th and 80th minutes while Z. Ellis' goal was in the 8th minute. Hickman, Montgomery and McKenzie Thompson had assists in the match.
