Ellis and Williams receive MACJC honors

RIDGELAND --- Holmes Community College freshman forward Cariel Ellis of Madison and freshman goalkeeper Carly Williams of Flowood have been named MACJC Players of the Week for their play in the MACJC and Region XXIII postseason matches last week.

Ellis was named Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Last week, she had 17 shots, 11 shots on goal, four goals and one assist in Holmes' MACJC State Championship and Region XXIII matches. Ellis is second in goals in the NJCAA with 47 and third in points with 112 points in the NJCAA so far.

Holmes, the MACJC and Region XXIII Champions, will play in the NJCAA District Championship Saturday at 6 p.m. vs. Tyler JC at Freedom Ridge Park.

Williams was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season. Last week, she gave up two goals in three matches and had 20 saves in 270 minutes in the net. For the year so far, Williams has 87 saves in 1215 minutes in net. She has a record of 16-2 on the season.

The two players will now be considered for NJCAA honors, which will be released on Wednesday.
