Holmes gets 2-1 win in NJCAA Division II National Tournament Pool Play

EVANS, Ga. --- The No. 2 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs picked up a 2-1 win today over Allen County, Kan. in the 2020-21 NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Tournament pool play.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 13-0-1 on the season. Holmes will play St. Louis, Mo., on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. eastern/1:30 p.m. central on Sunday in the remaining pool game.

The Lady Bulldogs scored their two goals in the 29^th minute of the match. Sophomore Cariel Ellis got on the scoreboard on an assist from freshman Mia Aviles. Sophomore Laney Smith scored second later on an assist from Ellis to put Holmes up 2-0.

Allen County scored in the 41^st minute. Holmes led 2-1 at halftime. Neither team was able to score in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs finished with 25 shots with nine on goal while Allen finished with six shots and three on goal.

Sophomore Carly Williams got the start in net and had no saves in 45 minutes. Layken Stockstill played the final 45 minutes and had two saves.
