POPLARVILLE --- The No. 3 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs lost their first match of the season here Tuesday night vs. the No. 10 Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats in overtime, 3-2.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 15-1-1 on the season and finished MACCC play, 8-1-1. Holmes captured the MACCC Championship, their third in four seasons and will play in the Region XXIII Tournament at Jones on Nov. 4. The opponent and time has not been determined yet.
Jaleyn Hanson got the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the 9th minute on an assist from Tailynn Remmel.
The Lady Wildcats tied the match in the 35th minute. The match was tied at one at halftime.
Jaycelyn Russ scored on an assist from Callie McKinney in the 55th minute to put Holmes up 2-1.
Pearl River tied the match at two in the 70th minute. The match ended up tied at the end of regulation.
Pearl River scored in the first overtime to pull out the win, 3-2.
