RIDGELAND --- The No. 2 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in the MACCC with a 7-1 win over Meridian here Tuesday.
Holmes hosts Itawamba at 1 p.m. Friday in Ridgeland.
Kristen Phillips scored her first of two goals in the 10th minute off an assist from Brianna Lopez to put Holmes up 1-0. Laila Anderson blasted a ball in from deep off an assist from Phillips to put Holmes up 2-0 in the same minute. Jaycelyn Russ scored on a Lopez assist in the 16th minute to put Holmes up 3-0.
K.K. Morris scored on an assist from Christina Guzman in the 20th minute to put Holmes up 4-0 before Phillips got her second goal late in the first half off another assist from Lopez to give Holmes the 5-0 lead at halftime.
Meridian scored their only goal in the 54th minute.
Tailynn Remmel scored on an Olivia Tribolet assist in the 59th minute to put Holmes up 6-1. Tribolet scored in the 89th minute on an assist from Guzman to end the scoring at 7-1.
Addi Roberts and Karli Murphy split time in goal. Roberts finished with three saves while Murphy had two.
