WESSON --- Sophomore Jaycelyn Russ scored two goals here Friday to lift the No. 3 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs to a 4-1 MACCC win over the No. 17 Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves.
With the win, Holmes improves to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in the MACCC. Holmes will play three home matches this coming week. They play Hinds on Tuesday at 1 p.m., LSU-Eunice on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and East Mississippi on Friday at 1 p.m.
Russ scored her first goal of the match in the 7th minute on an assist from Kristen Phillips, one of two on the day. Phillips then scored a goal in the 11th minute on an assist from Brianna Lopez to put Holmes up 2-0.
Baileee Fairley increased the lead to 3-0 in the 23rd minute on an assist from Phillips.
Co-Lin scored in the 53rd minute before the Lady Bulldogs answered on a goal from Russ on an assist from Fairley in the 55th minute.
Karly Murphy played 90 minutes in goal and finished with two saves on three shots on goal.
