Lady Bulldogs start early season off 2-1

SENATOBIA --- The No. 5 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-1 on the season here Tuesday at Northwest Mississippi Community College after dropping a heartbreaker to No. 7 Heartland, 4-3.

The Lady Bulldogs scored in the 13th minute on a goal from Olivia Tribolet on an assist from Christina Guzman. Heartland tied the game at one in the 42nd minute.

Holmes answered back when Bailey Fairley scored on an assist from Brooklyn Samonski in the 43rd minute.

Heartland added two goals early in the second in the 50th and 55th minutes.

Holmes' Kristen Phillips scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to tie the match at three.

Heartland scored in the 83rd minute to pull out the win.

Against Dallas-Brookhaven, the NJCAA's Div. III's No. 1 team, on Friday the Lady Bulldogs won 3-0. Anna Beth Korhonen scored on an assist from Christina Guzman in the third minute, Sammi Doyle scored on a Guzman assist in the 23rd minute and Tribolet scored on an Emma Korhonen assist in the 42nd minute.

Against Centenary on Sunday, Holmes won 4-0. Phillips scored three goals in the 26th, 46th and 72nd minutes on assists from Tribolet, Fairley and Guzman. Kaylee Avant added the other goal in the 73rd minute on an assist from Phillips.
