Holmes picks up 5-1 win over Southern Union

RIDGELAND --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-2 on the season with a 5-1 win over Southern Union State here Friday.

Holmes will begin MACCC play on Tuesday at Hinds at 5 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the first half on a goal from Kristen Phillips in the 18th minute. Holmes led 1-0 at halftime.

Phillips added her second goal in the first minute of the second half to put Holmes up 2-0. 

Brooklyn Samonski got her first goal in the 53rd minute of the match to put Holmes up 3-0. Southern Union scored in the 62nd minute to make it 3-1.

Samonski added her second goal in the 66th minute to put Holmes up 4-1.

Bailee Fairley scored in the 87th minute to end all scoring at 5-1.

Anna Beth Korhonen and Fairley each had two assists while Daysha Taylor added one. 

In Champaign, Ill. last weekend, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Parkland, 9-0 and fell to Northeast, 3-1.

Against Parkland, Fairley had two goals while Samonski, Sammi Doyle, Phillips, Olivia Tribolet, Kaylee Avant, Morgan Walberg and Emma Korhonen each had one. Doyle and Anna Beth Korhonen each had two assists whle Phillips, Taylor, Kate DeAngelo and Akala Jacobs were credited with assists.

Against Northeast, Doyle had a goal on Emma Korhonen's assist.
