Bulldogs pick up 58-14 win over the Tigers

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs picked up a 58-14 win here Thursday over the Coahoma Community College Tigers.

Holmes, now 3-1 and 1-1 in the North Division, is on the road Thursday at Northeast Mississippi Community College at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs got started early in the game on a 39-yard touchdown pass from Lonnie Ratliff IV to Deion Smith. Jalen Ballard's extra point was good, and Holmes led 7-0 with 13:42 left in the first quarter.

After Coahoma mishandled the ensuing kickoff, the Bulldogs got the ball back and scored again with 13:03 left in the first as Joe Moss bulled his way in from six yards out. Ballard's kick was good, and Holmes led 14-0.

On fourth down, the ball was snapped over the Coahoma punter's head, and the Tigers recovered in the end zone for a safety, and Holmes led 16-0 with 11:48 left in the first.

Deriaun Townsend then added another score in the first when he scored from five yards out. Ballard's kick made it 23-0 with 9:10 left in the first.

J.J. Grant scored his first of two touchdowns with 1:08 left in the first. Ballard's kick made it 30-0. Grant's second touchdown came with 11:01 to play in the second when he scored from 12 yards out. Ballard's kick made it 37-0.

Ratliff connected with Jarvis Rush from 31 yards out with 8:24 left in the second. Ballard's kick made it 44-0.

The Tigers scored with 1:43 left in the second, and Holmes led 44-7 at halftime.

The Bulldogs added two scores in the second half. John Ford connected with Smith from 10 yards out, and Ballard's extra point made it 51-7 with 12:20 left in the third. Ford added a touchdown on a 4-yard run with 13 minutes left in the game, and Ballard's kick was good ending the Bulldogs' scoring at 58.

Coahoma added a touchdown with three minutes left to end the scoring at 58-14.

Holmes finished with 561 yards of total offense including 348 passing and 213 rushing. Ratliff was 18-of-20 for 280 yards and two touchdowns. Smith had four catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Moss led in rushing with 80 yards on 11 carries and one score. Townsend had 79 yards on nine carries.

Kendorean Russell had five tackles including two sacks and three TFL. Octavius Pernell, Laterrius Haynes and Ke'Zerrian Wash each had an interception.
