PREVIEW: Holmes will face Gulf Coast in the Region XXIII Tournament Thursday

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs will go into the Region XXIII Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face the No. 12 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs on Thursday night in Goodman.

Holmes finished the regular season at 11-3 overall and 11-3 in the North Division while Gulf Coast finished the regular season 6-10 overall and 4-10 in the South Division. The winner of the game will face the winner of LSU-Eunice/Itawamba on April 6. You can watch the game on holmesccmedia.com/cardinal-channel. 

Holmes is led in scoring by sophomore guard Kaleb Higgins, who is averaging 19.9 points per game. Sophomore guard Brandon Weatherspoon is averaging 14.8 points per game. As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 72.3 points per game and are shooting 43.1 percent from the floor, 35.3 percent from three-point range and 70.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 63 points per game.

Gulf Coast is led in scoring by freshman guard Melvion Flanagan, who is averaging 19.9 points per game while sophomore forward Anthony Ratliff and freshman forward Carr Thiam are averaging 13.1 points per game. As a team, Gulf Coast is averaging 72.4 points per game and is shooting 38.6 percent from the floor, 30.5 percent from the three-point line and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Gulf Coast is giving up 71.9 points per game.
