Preview: Bulldogs to face LSU-E Bengals in Region XXIII quarterfinals

GOODMAN --- The No. 5 seed Holmes Community College Bulldogs will face the No. 4 seed Louisiana State University-Eunice Bengals in the Region XXIII Tournament quarterfinals in Eunice on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

Holmes goes into the game 12-3 after defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 96-89 in the second round Thursday night in Goodman. LSU-E, who is 12-0, on the season advanced when Itawamba Community College was unable to play due to COVID-19 protocols.

Holmes is led in scoring by sophomore guard Kaleb Higgins, who is averaging 20.1 points per game. Sophomore guard Brandon Weatherspoon is averaging 15.3 points per game. As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 73.9 points per game and are shooting 43.7 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from three-point range and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 64.7 points per game.

LSU-E is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jonathan Cisse, who is averaging 21.3 points per game while sophomore guard Isaiah Payne, who is averaging 18 points per game. As a team, LSU-E is averaging 82.4 points per game and is shooting 46.3 percent from the floor, 34.5 percent from the three-point line and 68.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Bengals are giving up 67.6 points per game.
