PREVIEW: Bulldogs to face Vincennes in the NJCAA National Tournament

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs will face the Vincennes University Trailblazers in the first round of the NJCAA National Tournament on Monday, April 19 at 2 p.m. Holmes will be the No. 18 seed while Vincennes will be the No. 15 seed.

The Bulldogs will go into the tournament with a 15-3 record while Vincennes will go into the tournament with a record of 17-6. Holmes was the winner of the Region 23 Tournament (Gulf District) after defeating Northeast, 81-56, Friday night in Clinton. Vincennes lost the Region 24 Tournament Championship Game (Central District) to John A. Logan College on Friday, 77-68.

Vincennes is a two-year university located in Vincennes, Ind.

Holmes won eight straight games and 10 out of the last 11 games on the 2021 schedule. Vincennes won the last eight out of 10 games they played this season.

Holmes is led in scoring by sophomore guard Kaleb Higgins, who is averaging 19.9 points per game. Sophomore guard Brandon Weatherspoon is averaging 15.9 points per game. As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 73.8 points per game and are shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 36.7 percent from three-point range and 71.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 63.8 points per game.

Vincennes is led by Justin Archer with 11.7 points per game while Christian Wells is averaging 9.3 points per game and D.J. Brewton is averaging 9.1 points per game. As a team, the Trailblazers are averaging 71.1 points per game and are shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, 34.2 percent from the three-point range and 67.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The Trailblazers are giving up 63.1 points per game.
