Holmes will face Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa in NJCAA Second Round tonight

GOODMAN --- The No. 18-seeded Holmes Community College Bulldogs will face the No. 2-seeded Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa Mavericks in the second round of the NJCAA National Tournament on Tuesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are 16-3 overall while the Mavericks are 23-1. Holmes has won nine straight games and 11 out of the last 12 games on the 2021 schedule including yesterday's 71-66 win over Vincennes, Ind. Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa has 12 straight games. They won the Region 2 Championship, 66-64, over Northern Oklahoma-Enid.

Holmes is led in scoring by sophomore guard Kaleb Higgins, who is averaging 19.5 points per game. Sophomore guard Brandon Weatherspoon is averaging 16.3 points per game. As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 73.7 points per game and are shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 37 percent from three-point range and 71.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 63.9 points per game.

Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa is led by sophomore guards Tyrel Morgan and J.D. Ray each with 15.7 points per game while sophomore forward Avante Lederer is averaging 15.3 points per game and freshman guard Dylan McLean is averaging 13.1 points per game. As a team, the Mavericks are averaging 81.4 points per game and are shooting 46.8 percent from the floor, 35.9 percent from the three-point range and 71.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Mavericks are giving up 64.5 points per game.
