Bulldogs open the season tonight vs. SW Tennessee

The 2021-22 Holmes Community College men's basketball team returns nine players from its Region 23 Championship and NJCAA National Tournament team to this year's squad. The Bulldogs begin their season on Monday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in Goodman vs. Southwest Tennessee.

The Bulldogs last season finished 16-4 overall and 11-3 in the North Division. The Bulldogs defeated Gulf Coast, LSU-Eunice, Pearl River and Northeast in the Region 23 Tournament in Clinton before heading to the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. In Hutch, the Bulldogs knocked off Vincennes in the opening round, 71-66, before falling to Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa in their next game.

Returning players for the Bulldogs include: Olanrewaju Olayinka, 6'9, center, Garland, Texas; Tyler Talley, 5'11, guard, Starkville; Jordan Brister, 5'6, guard, Jackson; Zanteous Thornton, guard, Brooklyn;  Mason Riley, 6', guard, Camden; Darrius Clark, 6'4, guard/forward, Indianola; Micah O'Guin, 6'4, forward, Pascagoula; Isaiah Sheffield, 6'2, guard, Olive Branch; and DeMarcus Gray, 6'8, center, Carthage.

Talley, who was named to the Region 23 All-Tournament Team last season, was the third leading scorer on last year's team averaging 8.8 points per game. He shot 37.9 percent from the three-point line. Clark averaged 8.2 points per game and was fourth in scoring on the team He also pulled in 4.3 rebounds per game.

Newcomers include: Caleb Campbell, 6'3, freshman guard, Hot Springs, Ark.; Quashon Rowe, 5'8, freshman guard, Mileston; Jourdain Dishmond, 6'8, freshman forward, Alexandria, La.; Eric Green, 6'2, freshman guard, Starkville; Lazamion McGruder, 6'6, freshman forward, Canton; and Ty Moore, 6'7, freshman forward, Grenada.
