Bulldogs advance to Region quarterfinals with 81-69 win

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region 23 Tournament today in Goodman with an 81-69 win over the East Central Community College Warriors.

Holmes now, 22-8, will travel to Scooba Monday night at 6 p.m. to play East Mississippi Community College. Holmes is the No. 5 seed while East Mississippi is the No. 4 seed.

The Bulldogs led 40-34 at halftime and then outscored the Warriors, 41-35, to pull out the win.

Hobert Grayson led the Bulldogs with 25 points while Cameron Wallace had 22, Jamar Jenkins had 17 and Jalen Tatum had 14.

Holmes shot 57.1 percent from the floor (32-of-56) and 82.4 percent from the free throw line (14-of-17).

In the final regular season game Thursday in Goodman, the Bulldogs picked up an 86-61 win over the Hinds Bulldogs.

Hinds led 35-33 at halftime, but Holmes outscored Hinds, 53-26, in the second half for the win.

Dacory Porter led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Hobert Grayson had 18, Jalen Tatum had 12 and Cameron Wallace had 10. Holmes shot 49.2 percent from the floor, 50 percent from the free throw line and 82.6 percent from the free throw line.
