Bulldogs and Lions to play in Region quarterfinals Monday in Scooba

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs will face East Mississippi tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the Region 23 Tournament quarterfinals. Holmes is the No. 5 seed while East Mississippi is the No. 4 seed.

Holmes defeated East Central, 81-69, on Saturday to advance in the tournament. Holmes is 22-8 overall while East Mississippi is 16-13. East Mississippi defeated Holmes, 76-67, in Scooba on Feb. 8. The winner will face the Jones/Baton Rouge winner on Thursday in the Region semifinals at Mississippi College.

Other teams participating in the quarterfinals are Northeast/Pearl River and Gulf Coast/Meridian with those teams playing each other in the other semifinal on Thursday at Mississippi College.

Holmes is led in scoring by Cameron Wallace, who is averaging 18.7 points per game. Hobert Grayson averages 15.1 points per game, Jalen Tatum averages 9.5 points per game, and Dacory Porter averages 9 points per game. Wallace and Grayson bring in 7.5 rebounds per game while Tatum brings in 6 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 77.1 points per game and are shooting 49 percent from the floor, 29.8 percent from three-point range and 69.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 68.8 points per game.

East Mississippi is led in scoring by Andrew Mason, who is averaging 16 points per game. Tremaine Dixon, Jr. is averaging 14.5 points per game while Nick Walker is averaging 13.3 points per game. Walker brings in 9.6 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Lions are averaging 77.6 points per game and are shooting 43.9 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from the three-point line and 71.8 percent from the free-throw line.

East Mississippi is giving up 72.7 points per game.
