Bulldogs to battle Bobcats in Region 23 semifinals on Thursday

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs will face Jones tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Region 23 Tournament semifinals at Tougaloo College in Jackson. Holmes is the No. 5 seed while Jones is the No. 1 seed.

Holmes defeated East Mississippi, 81-68, on Monday to advance to the semifinals and defeated East Central, 81-69, on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Jones defeated Baton Rouge, 80-75, in the quarterfinals on Monday. Holmes is 23-8 overall while Jones is 25-6. Holmes defeated Jones, 81-72, in Goodman during the regular season.

Northeast is playing in the other semifinal game. The two winners will meet on Friday for the Region 23 championship at 7 p.m. at Tougaloo.

Holmes is led in scoring by Cameron Wallace, who is averaging 18.7 points per game. Hobert Grayson averages 15.2 points per game, Jalen Tatum averages 9.6 points per game, and Dacory Porter averages 9.2 points per game. Wallace brings in 7.6 rebounds per game and Grayson brings in 7.5 rebounds per game while Tatum brings in 6 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 77.3 points per game and are shooting 49.1 percent from the floor, 30.2 percent from three-point range and 69.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 68.8 points per game.

Jones is led in scoring by Dimp Pernell, who is averaging 19.2 points per game. Ky Pernell is averaging 16.9 points per game while L.J. Hackman is averaging 13.1 points per game. Dimp Pernell leads in rebounds with 6.7 per game while Trey Smith brings in six rebounds per game.

As a team, the Bobcats are averaging 81.8 points per game and are shooting 45.8 percent from the floor, 41 percent from the three-point line and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Jones is giving up 69.9 points per game.
