Bulldogs to open Region play at home Thursday vs. Delta

GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs will go into the Region 23 Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 11 seed Mississippi Delta Community College on Thursday in Goodman.

Holmes finished the regular season at 20-7 overall and 8-6 in the MACCC while Mississippi Delta finished 13-15 overall and 5-9 in the MACCC. The winner of the game will face No. 3 seed Itawamba on Monday in Fulton. Jones College is the host for the Men's Tournament semifinals and finals on March 12-13.

Other teams participating (with seeding) include: No. 1 Jones, No. 2 Pearl River, No. 4 Northeast, No. 5 Hinds, No. 7 Southwest, No. 8 Gulf Coast, No. 9 Baton Rouge, No. 10 East Central and No. 12 Coahoma. Gulf Coast will play Baton Rouge, Hinds will play Coahoma and Southwest will play East Central. Jones awaits the Gulf Coast/Baton Rouge winner, Northeast awaits the Hinds/Coahoma winner and Pearl River awaits the Southwest/East Central winner.

Holmes is led in scoring by Cameron Wallace, who is averaging 20.5 points per game. K.J. Sykes averages 15.6 points per game and Trey Smith 10.1 points per game. Wallace averages 7.9 rebounds per game while Christian Parks brings in 6.2 and Smith brings in 5.6 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Bulldogs are averaging 76.6 points per game and are shooting 49 percent from the floor, 29 percent from three-point range and 67.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 69.3 points per game.

Mississippi Delta is led in scoring by Davion Traylor, who is averaging 19.8 points per game. Bralyn Mayfield is averaging 9.4 points per game while Andrew Mancell is averaging 9.2 points per game. Traylor brings in 10.4 rebounds per game while Mancell brings in 5.9 rebounds per game.

As a team, the Trojans are averaging 70 points per game and is shooting 45 percent from the floor, 26.3 percent from the three-point line and 64.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Delta is giving up 75.8 points per game.
