Bio

Former Holmes Bulldog and Clinton native Marcus Washington has joined Holmes Community College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jason Flanigan’s staff as an assistant coach.

Washington played for Coach Flanigan during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons and help lead the Bulldogs to their first appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. A last second bucket gave Hill College the win to keep the Bulldogs from their first appearance in the final four. Washington finished with 11 points in the quarterfinal game. As a sophomore, he averaged 10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. As a freshman, he averaged 4.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

After Holmes, Washington transferred to University of Louisiana-Monroe and played two seasons there. At ULM as a sophomore, he averaged 8.5 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. As a freshman, he appeared in 20 games and averaged three points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Prior to coming to Holmes, Washington coached at Clinton Christian in Clinton for three seasons. He was the junior high and high school girls head coach and junior high and high school boys assistant coach. During this time, the boys won two state championships in MAIS 4A and the girls won one MAIS 4A championship. He also worked for Nissan and played semi-pro basketball in Los Mochis, New Mexico.

He is a Clinton High School graduate and is the son of Wayne and Tammy Washington. He has a son, Marcus Washington, Jr., who is two.
