Bio

After having a dynamic basketball career at Ole Miss, Jason Flanigan began his dream of coaching basketball after following in his father and brother’s footsteps.
 
Coach Flanigan is entering his 17th season at Holmes Community College, and his 14th year as the head men’s basketball coach.
 
As head coach, Flanigan has helped 76 players and managers graduate over a 14-year span. During this time, he has witnessed 60 student-athletes sign basketball scholarships and 27 to further their basketball career at Division I programs.
 
This past season was definitely challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, the Bulldogs did not allow COVID stop them from capturing their third Region XXIII title. The Bulldogs finished the season 16-4 before losing to Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa in the second round of the NJCAA Tournament.  
 
In 2018, the Bulldogs won the Region 23 Tournament for the second time in school history, the Bulldogs earned their ticket back to the NJCAA Tournament. During the 2017-18 season, the Bulldogs finished 24-5. In 2016-17, the Bulldogs shared the North Division title, in 2015-16 the Bulldogs had an overall record of 18-7, and they were the North Division Champs and in 2014-15 the Bulldogs went 25-7 and were North Division Champs, MACJC State Runner-up, and Region XXIII Champs.  Lastly, for the first time in school history, Coach Flanigan led his 2014-15 team to its first NJCAA appearance where they advanced to the Elite Eight.
 
Coach Flanigan has received many awards; he was recognized as MACJC Coach of the Year (2015, 2016, 2018). He was named Region XXIII Coach of the Year and District 15 Coach of the Year (2015, 2018, 2021).  In previous seasons, Flanigan helped guide the Bulldogs to two back-to-back State Championships in 2006 and 2007 as an assistant under former Head Coach Todd Kimble. In the summer of 2015, Coach Flanigan was chosen as the USA Pan American Men’s Basketball Training Camp Court Coach for the USA Basketball Team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 
Coach Flanigan, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, joined the Bulldogs in 2005 after two seasons as an Assistant Coach at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana.  In his first season (2003-04), the Gold Rush were the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Champs and appeared in the NAIA National Tournament. During the 2004-05 season, Flanigan helped lead the Gold Rush to a second NAIA National Tournament appearance. Prior to Xavier, Flanigan served as a Graduate Assistant Coach under Coach Rod Barnes at Ole Miss after completing his playing career.
 
While playing four seasons at Ole Miss, the Rebels posted winning records and advanced to the postseason each year (3 NCAA, 1 NIT). He was also a member of the 1998 and 2001 Ole Miss squads that claimed the Southeastern Conference Western Division titles.
 
During his 2000-01 senior year, he hit a free throw with 0:02 on the clock to seal a 59-56 NCAA Tournament second-round victory over Notre Dame and propelled Ole Miss to the program’s first “Sweet Sixteen” appearance. As a former standout basketball player at Ole Miss, Flanigan was a member of the most winning senior class in Ole Miss Basketball history with 88 victories. Flanigan obtained his bachelor’s degree in Leisure Management from The University of Mississippi and his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Belhaven University.
 
While in high school at Parkview Arts & Science Magnet School, Flanigan was a standout player for his father, Coach Al Flanigan. He earned All-State honors his junior and senior year, also played in two Arkansas State Title games as a junior (Runner-up) and sophomore (Championship). His older brother, Wes, is the assistant men’s basketball coach at Auburn University.
 
On September 23, 2006, Flanigan married his college sweetheart, Kisha. She is an English Language Arts Consultant for Greene Education Services. The Flanigans have a six-year-old son, Karter Alfred.
