Lady Bulldogs open basketball season on Friday at noon

The 2024-25 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs return two players from the 2023-24 team. The Lady Bulldogs open the season on Nov. 1 at noon vs. Hinds on Elementary Day, where elementary students from the area come to cheer on the Lady Bulldogs.

Returning players include: Bella Roberts, guard, Winona; and Amanda Walker, forward, Pearl.

Roberts, who was named Honorable Mention All-MACCC, led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 13.5 points per game with 350 points scored. She shot 35.8 percent from the floor (98-of-274), 34.3 percent from three-point range (61-of-178) and 71.5 percent from the free throw line (93-of-130). She averaged 4.2 rebounds per game, 1.3 steals per game and one assist per game.

Walker averaged 3.1 points per game along with 3.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per game last season.

Newcomers include: Nevaeh Craft, guard, Houston, Texas; Kiara Howard, guard, Mobile, Ala.; Kamren Edwards, guard, Jackson; Jairya Rankins, guard, Olive Branch; Satiya Johnson, forward/center, Jackson; Da'Riyah Mayers, forward, Forest; Julissa Claxton, guard, Jackson; Kelsey Joseph, guard, Lumberton; Shamari Hamlett, guard, Memphis, Tenn.; Hannah Finley, guard, New Albany; and Kiara Shelly, guard/forward, Saltillo. Craft is a sophomore transfer from Southwest while Howard is a sophomore transfer from East Mississippi. Craft averaged 3.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game at Southwest while Howard averaged 8.7 points, 1/6 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.2 rebounds per game at East Mississipp.

Coach Bridget Goodnight returns as head coach of the Lady Bulldogs and is in her fourth year at Holmes. Brooke Walker is in her fourth season as the Lady Bulldogs assistant coach.
