Ellis and Williams receive MACJC honors

RIDGELAND --- The first MACJC soccer honors on the women's side for this season go to two freshman Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs – Cariel Ellis and Carly Williams.

Ellis, a forward from Madison, who played at Madison Central, was named the MACJC Offensive Player of the Week while Williams, a goalkeeper from Flowood, who played at Northwest Rankin, was named the MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week.

In three games, Ellis has scored eight goals and has four assists on the young season. In the first two matches of the season, Ellis had four goals and four assists, but in last Friday's match with Itawamba she scored four goals in the single contest. So far she has taken 24 shots and 18 shots on goal.

In three games, Williams has a record of 3-0. She has 14 saves on 17 shots on goal and has given up three goals this season.

Including in the three wins, the Lady Bulldogs have defeated Southwest, 7-1; No. 14 Jones, 6-1 and Itawamba, 4-2.

The two players will now be considered for NJCAA honors, which will be released tomorrow.
