RIDGELAND --- The No. 17 Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs finished off the regular season today on Sophomore Day by capturing their fourth straight North Division Championship with a 3-0 win over Hinds Community College at Freedom Ridge Park.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 15-2 overall and 7-1 in the North Division. Holmes will play in next week's MACJC State Tournament at Hinds Community College on Saturday. Their opponent has not been determined.
Zoe Ellis got the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard first when she put back a shot from Cariel Ellis in the 29th minute to put Holmes up 1-0.
Cariel Ellis got her first of two goals in the 34th minute on assists from Mackenzie Thompson. C. Ellis scored her final goal in the 41st minute when she deflected a goalkeeper's kick straight into the goal.
Sophomores honored today included: Angel Cummings, Caseigh Hickman, Isabella Wade, Halleigh Steed, Kya Davis, Anna King, Ja'Laycia Brown, Peyton Montgomery, Zoe Ellis, Alysia Terry, Bailee Gregg and Alyssa Madrid.
