Lady Bulldogs begin Region play Saturday in Ridgeland

RIDGELAND --- The No. 4 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will host the No. 17 Itawamba Community College Lady Indians at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Ridgeland Campus in the Region 23 Tournament quarterfinals.

Holmes, who is 16-1 overall and finished 10-1 in the MACCC, captured a share of the MACCC title on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over Jones College. Jones and Northwest were also Co-MACCC Champions. Holmes is the No. 3 seed in the Region Tournament while Itawamba, 14-5 overall and 6-5 in the MACCC, is the No. 6 seed.

Kristen Phillips (West Lauderdale), who is coming off MACCC/NJCAA/United Soccer Player of the Week honors, leads the Lady Bulldogs in points with 63. She has 27 goals and nine assists. Next in points are Brianna Lopez (Northside, Ark.) with 46 (10 goals and 26 assists); Jaycelyn Russ (Madison Central) with 39 (15 goals and nine assists); Olivia Tribolet (Madison Central) with 38 points (14 goals and 10 assists); and Bailee Fairley (West Lauderdale) with 33 points (13 goals and seven assists).

Addi Roberts (Jackson Academy) and Karly Murphy (Hartfield) split time in goal this season. Roberts finished the regular season with 54 saves and gave up eight goals while Murphy has 18 saves and gave up two goals this season.

Holmes is scoring 6.05 goals per match and is giving up less than one goal per match.

Vanessa Baugatz (Schorfheide, Germany) leads the Lady Indians in points with 34. She has 14 goals and six assists. Next in points are Lauren Sharples (Liverpool, England) with 33 (10 goals and 13 assists) and Beth Lloyd (Failsworth, England) with 26 (nine goals and eight assists).

Asia Robinson (Lewisburg) finished the regular season with 117 saves and gave up 24 goals on the season.

Itawamba is scoring 4.05 goals per match and is giving up 1.26 goals per match.
