Holmes to battle Cape Fear tomorrow at 3 p.m. MT in NJCAA National Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. --- The No. 4 ranked Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will face the No. 15 ranked Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils here Sunday at 3 p.m. MT in the 2023 NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Tournament.

Holmes, 17-2, comes into the tournament as an at-large team and the No. 3 overall seed while Cape Fear, 11-0-1, is the No. 10 seed and champions of the South Atlantic district.

Kristen Phillips (West Lauderdale) leads the Lady Bulldogs in points with 67. She has 29 goals and nine assists. Next in points are Brianna Lopez (Northside, Ark.) with 49 (11 goals and 27 assists); Jaycelyn Russ (Madison Central) with 42 (16 goals and 10 assists); Olivia Tribolet (Madison Central) with 38 points (14 goals and 10 assists); and Bailee Fairley (West Lauderdale) with 35 points (13 goals and nine assists).

Addi Roberts (Jackson Academy) and Karly Murphy (Hartfield) split time in goal this season. Roberts finished the regular season with 65 saves and gave up 10 goals while Murphy has 21 saves and gave up three goals this season.

Holmes is scoring 5.89 goals per match and is giving up .74 goals per match.

Maya McDonald (Whiteville, NC) leads Cape Fear in scoring with 35 points (16 goals and three assists). Johanna Morales (Selma, NC) is next with 19 points (seven goals and five assists) and Halie Blizzard (Fayetteville, NC) and Lauren Laux (Fuquay-Varina, NC) each with 14 points (four goals and six assists). 

Maleah Bainer (Wilmington, NC) has 40 saves and has given up four goals this season.

Cape Fear is scoring 4.17 goals per match and is giving up .58 goals per match.
