Russ signs with Texas Southern University

Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog soccer player Jaycelyn Russ signed with Texas Southern University on April 25 in the new soccer fieldhouse on the Ridgeland Campus. The daughter of Kimberly and Jerry Russ, she played forward for the Lady Bulldogs while majoring in mechanical engineering.

This season, Russ was in the starting lineup for 22 games, including 11 conference games. She scored 20 goals, with three of those being game-winning goals. Russ also had 11 assists. The Lady Bulldogs finished the season, 19-3, and won a share of the MACCC title. Additionally, Russ represented the Lady Bulldogs as part of the North women team in the 2023 MACCC All-Star Soccer Game post-season.

"We are extremely proud of Jaycelyn and her continuing her academic and athletic journey at Division 1 Texas Southern," Head Women's Soccer Coach Wesley Noble said. "Jayce's work ethic in her two years has been first class and is the sole reason for her successes and opportunities. She was a key component for us for two years and we can't wait to watch her excel even more at the next level."
